What Is Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a soft, non-intrusive process experienced by the majority of clients as safe and beneficial. Whilst experience suggests most people will gain from biofeedback some may not and there is no guaranteed outcome or rate of progression.

Neither biofeedback devices nor biofeedback approaches are designed or intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical, psychological or nutritional condition, disease or disorder. Legally registered biofeedback devices are listed as a primary objective of relaxation, stress reduction and muscle re-education.

Research has illustrated the benefits of biofeedback stress management and there is widespread agreement that stress is a major factor behind the disturbance of your wellness. Stress reduction, i.e. reducing the load facilitates a return of the body to a better state of health and stress management assists in the maintenance of health. Biofeedback is a means to support both the return process and maintenance of wellness.

In our biofeedback process we use an interface device, linked up to a computer. The device is CE/FDA registered as a biofeedback device. The biofeedback classification is one of the lowest reflecting regulatory authorities perspectives of its intrinsic safe nature.

The type of biofeedback we use is an advanced form employing a very subtle electro-magnetic dialogue. This dialogue is within body electrical parameters (generally below 1.5 volts and a few milliamps). This is equivalent to the power level of a small single battery torch. The interaction is generally so subtle that most clients have no sensation of it.

Advanced biofeedback is used in the practice in two ways: the initial interaction is used to generate some stress response information which can be used as part of helping you to understand the stress activities and processes in your system. The second aspect is to help support the stress reduction processes. The information generated is somewhat specialised and relies on the therapist's skill on working with it as part of supporting your return to wellness.

There are very few contra indications of biofeedback but these do include pregnancy, epilepsy, pacemakers (and other electrical implants) and in some cases extreme electrical sensitivity.

Whilst the effects of biofeedback are generally experienced as pleasant and beneficial other less expected effects can and do occur: these are generally mild and of short duration. We would like you to be aware of this possibility. Generally it is a detoxification process which is sign that the body is busy with a restorative process.
